BlackBerry Pearl

No, RIM isn’t backing out from its first foray into the world of the unknown (such as the company’s first clamshell phone design), but it looks like we won’t be seeing a BlackBerry “KickStart” after all.

You see, RIM has deemed the names “KickStart” and “SeaWolf” unworthy of consumers’ adulation. So, RIM did what any decent company would do; rename the handset a pretty yet prosaic BlackBerry “Pearl.” Of course I knew “KickStart” and “SeaWolf” could have merely been codenames used while in development, but compared to “Pearl,” they seem to have more oomph. Anyhow, as expected, the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 (KickStart) will have WiFi, while the BlackBerry Pearl 8210 (SeaWolf) would have GPS. We haven’t heard anything about Australian carriers yet, but in the USA, T-Mobile might be getting the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 while the BlackBerry Pearl 8210 could land on AT&T.
